In tiny wretched huts fashioned from clay, old boards and various salvaged items Roma families dwell in cramped conditions. Particularly hard are the icy winter months. Rain causes the clay walls to collapse, the roofs aren’t watertight. Ten or more persons live together in the tiniest space; there is no furniture, only broken-down couches. Keeping any kind of order is impossible.
Together with the family fathers we build new houses, sturdy and winter-proof. Whatever can be saved, we try to repair.
